What happened?

U.S. Representative Barry Moore won Alabama’s Republican Senate runoff after receiving more than $12 million in support from Fairshake, the crypto industry’s leading super PAC. The result gives the sector another primary victory as it works to expand a pro-crypto bloc in Congress.

Why it matters

The result matters because it marks another high-profile test of crypto’s campaign-finance strategy in the 2026 midterms. Fairshake and related groups have made congressional races a central arena for shaping future crypto policy, spending heavily for candidates they view as supportive of the industry.

U.S. Representative Barry Moore won Alabama’s Republican Senate runoff, advancing to the general election after more than $12 million in backing from Fairshake, the crypto industry’s leading super PAC. Moore defeated former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson in Tuesday’s runoff and is now expected to be strongly positioned in November in heavily Republican Alabama.

The result matters because it marks another high-profile test of crypto’s campaign-finance strategy in the 2026 midterms. Fairshake and related groups have made congressional races a central arena for shaping future crypto policy, spending heavily for candidates they view as supportive of the industry.

Moore has been a reliable vote for crypto legislation in the House, according to the source report, and Fairshake made its largest spending commitment of the cycle in his race. The runoff followed an initial May primary in which Moore did not clear the 50% threshold.

Fairshake’s win in Alabama also helps offset a recent loss in Illinois, where the group spent more than $10 million against Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, who won the Democratic primary. In Alabama, Moore took almost 56% of the vote, according to the report.

The PAC network began the election cycle with $193 million and had about $164 million on hand at the end of April, based on recent federal filings cited by CoinDesk. Fairshake is primarily backed by Coinbase, a16z Crypto and Ripple, and it also supported U.S. Representative Kevin Hern in Oklahoma, where he won the Republican Senate nomination this week.
